Tomatoes require 14-30◦C temperature for better growth, Vegetable Specialists.

Tomato is a warm season crop, it requires warm and cool climate. The plants cannot withstand frost and high humidity. Also light intensity affects pigmentation, fruit colour and fruit set. The plant is highly affected by adverse climatic conditions. It requires 14-30◦C temperature for optimum growth and development. Vegetable Specialists said that, for transplanting tomato seedlings, fertile loamy soil rich in organic matter must be selected. Because in such soils moisture is retained for longer duration and nutrients are easily absorbed by roots and hence growth and development occurs smoothly.

They said that for transplanting third crop of tomato, seedlings must be transplanted in well prepared field during mid-December. Before the transplanting, farmers should apply 10-12 tonnes farmyard manure and 20kg Urea per acre field. After doing irrigation, in moisture field 2-3 ploughings followed by planking must be done and field should be left as such. This promote weeds growth and thus its growth can be controlled at later stages. After the emergence of weeds ploughing must be done and field should be left again as such for some days in order to allow solarisation for treating soil to rid of harmful organisms. In order to obtain higher production the land for tomato cultivation needs to be levelled before transplanting.
