To protect mango orchards from mealybugs, bands should be placed around the stem

Mealy bug is among  the most abundant and destructive pest of mango that play a major role in bringing down the fruit quality and yield. To protect mango orchards from the expected loss of mealybugs, during last week of November and first week of December, place bands around plant stem at a height of two to three feet so that the nymphs emerging from the ground immediately after winter can’t climb and thus won’t be able to cause damage. There are two types of bands, adhesive and slippery. The width of the adhesive band should be  8 to 10 cm while the width of the sliding band should be 15 to 30 cm. The bands should be inspected regularly and if the adhesive bands start drying then re-apply so that it’s effective till the month of April.
