Important recommendations after cotton has been harvested

After the last picking of cotton, farmers should graze sheep, goats and other animals in the harvested field, so that these animals can eat affected bolls and leaves and it will help in controlling pink bollworm for the next season. After last picking, cotton sticks should be cut to a depth of six inches at ground level so that in early spring no growth occurs from these stalks, otherwise it will help pink bollworm to continue its lifecycle. Cottons sticks should be destroyed anyway and if they are used for fuel purpose then those should be stacked in bundles and kept in sun for drying so that the remaining bollworms are killed. Before the arrival of spring, to bury remaining plant debris, deep ploughing of barren cotton fields should be done as it will suppress weeds and cotton stalks sprouting.
