Guava summer crop should be protected from fruit fly

Fruit flies severely damage the summer crop of guava fruit. The number of fruit flies is higher during March till October, so per acre 4 to 6 pheromone traps (methyl eugenol) should be used in order to monitor and kill adults of fruit flies. After every 10 days the chemical used for the traps should be changed. To control male fruit fly methyl eugenol is used as it attracts male fruit fly.

The use of pheromone traps has been used to improve fruit fly control in orchards. Pheromone solution is prepared from methyl eugenol and malathion. It also reduces the use of chemical sprays for controlling fruit flies by 80 to 90 percent.
