Agriculture Experts have instructed carrot farmers to take proper care of the crop and advised to do irrigation when there is requirement. Soil should be kept moist and it should not be dry. To allow proper growth and development wet conditions should be avoided. They said that for higher production weeds should be controlled. Farmers should do weeding and hoeing at appropriate time and proper attention must be given to irrigation.
During early growth stages of carrot 2 irrigations are given per week. Later the irrigation interval can be increased. When the growth occurs, thinning should be done and plant to plant distance should be kept 2-3cm.Thinning is very important to achieve good-sized roots. When thinning is delayed, the carrots will not develop symmetrically. Twisted, distorted roots are often caused by delaying thinning too long. In addition to that crop should be protected from insect pests such as aphids, white fly and bollworm.
