Livestock production constitutes a very important component of the agricultural economy. To meet the daily nutrient requirement of livestock, farmers are directed to complete sowing of winter season fodder crops till 15th November. Agriculture experts said that farmers should cultivate winter season crops at appropriate time, so that during harsh winter there is excess of food available for the livestock. Winter forage crops can fill the gaps in a fodder flow or compensate for good quality forage in the critical late autumn, winter and spring months. Further they added that for the cultivation of Rabi season fodder crops, fertile loamy soil with good drainage is suitable. High quality fodder crops contribute to the health of livestock and hence increases production. They said for the fodder crops 6-8 kg healthy seeds per acre should be used.
