Despite the improvements in agricultural sector, the issue of water scarcity still exists.

During the current year, despite the improvements in the agricultural sector the issue of water scarcity still exists. Due to which the agricultural sector is suffering a lot. According to the State Bank report, during the current year the agricultural sector growth rate is recorded 3.8 percent while it was recorded 2.1 percent during 2017.

During current year in addition to livestock sector improvement the production of rice, sugarcane and other small crops increased. Increase in the production of crops was due to the favourable climate conditions, availability of subsidies and usage of modern technologies for the cultivation of crops.

This year the production of wheat and sugar was much higher than the demand. Despite all these factors, the shortage of water in the country is greatly affecting the agricultural sector. Due to less rainfall and lack of resources for storage of water there is no possibility of improvement in the current situation. The report has shown that due to lack of water the agricultural sector’s growth rate may be affected.
