Cultivation of sugarcane in Cotton zone is prohibited.

Chairman of the Cabinet General Forum Ehsan ul Haq, said that to save the annual expenditure of billion dollars on import of cotton and water utilized for million acres land, Federal Government should ban cultivation of sugarcane in cotton zones of Pakistan. In place of cotton other crops and fruits can be grown and export of oil seed crops, pulses and various fruits can be possible at large extent. Moreover, due to the environmental changes caused by excessive cultivation of sugarcane, cotton quality decreases and ultimately export of cotton decreases, and additionally, sugarcane requires water several times more than cotton. To uplift the economy of country management in cropping system should be done in Pakistan.
