12 % local oil demand can be derived by production of Oil Seed Crops.

12 percent edible oil for the domestic consumption can be derived by production of oil seed crops at country level. For that 30 percent of wheat cultivated area should be utilized for the production of oil seed crops. Pakistan Vanaspati Manufacturers Association (PVMA), executive committee member, Shakeel Ashraf said in his statement that due to lack of domestic production of oil seed crops, Pakistan imports edible oil at $ 3.5 billion a year. To meet the demand of oil at domestic level, oil seed crops need to be cultivated within the country.
